Zero Energy House
The 90 sqm. 1 BHK house is an experiment to design a zero-energy house while still retaining its light weightiness for portability. The work was done as part of Advanced Architectural Studio 7. Based on the guidelines of Solar Decathlon Competition for a zero-energy house, the design incorporates various aspects of a passive house with 45 degrees orientation to North. Energy saving was calculated for photovoltaic system, solar hot water system and rainwater harvesting. With an open plan design, there is plenty of open space and vistas to the outdoor. The stand-alone louvers in the living area enable to open up space to the outdoors at the right measure and at the appropriate time of the day. With retractable shading in the outdoor area, the space can be used both in the summers and winters. The design is specific to the climate of Adelaide.
